How To Even Out Your Skin Tone

Do you have a ruddy complexion or one that is so uneven you can’t imagine going out in public without foundation and cover up on your face? There are ways in which you can even out your skin tone easily and without the use of makeup. If you are trying to get your skin tone “just right”, here are some tips on how you can start to improve the appearance of your skin today:

Use Sunscreen

First and foremost, if you have an uneven skin complexion, it’s time to start using a sunscreen with a SPF of 15 or higher. Ideally everyone should be wearing a sunscreen with a protection of SPF 30 on a daily basis, rain or shine, in order to prevent the sun’s ultraviolet rays from causing damage to our skin. Some foundations and moisturizers include an SPF of 30 in their products, but if this isn’t the case for you, make sure that you apply sunscreen to your face after you moisturize your skin to help block out these harmful sunrays.

Exfoliate Regularly

Exfoliating regularly will help you get rid of those skin cells that are causing your uneven complexion. Exfoliating helps you expedite the entire process, so you will notice a positive change in your skin faster than if you were not to exfoliate at all. You can use a store bought exfoliant, or you can make your very own with honey and sugar.

Moisturize your Skin

If you aren’t already moisturizing your skin, now is definitely the time to start. Keeping your skin hydrated will keep it healthy, which in turn will allow your skin to always look its best. After you exfoliate you skin, make sure you apply a quality moisturizing cream or lotion to your face (or other areas of your body) to keep your skin tone even.

Drink Water

It may sound a bit silly and far fetched, but drinking water will work wonders for your skin. Just as applying a moisturizer on the outside of your skin keeps it hydrated, making sure that you are taking in enough fluids in a day will only further ensure that your skin is being kept hydrated from the inside-out. Try to get in those 8 glasses of water a day and stay away from drinks that may deplete our body’s moisture, like caffeine and alcohol.

Using Makeup

Sometimes makeup is necessary, especially at the beginning of any treatment. The key here is to not use too much makeup. For instance, a lot of women with a slightly uneven skin tone can easily use a simple tinted moisturizer to help balance their skin tone rather than go for a “full coverage” foundation. When you purchase the moisturizer or the foundation that you need, make sure it will blend in well with your skin. The best way to do this is to blend the make up in to the skin at your jaw line. Try to also only apply these products to the areas that tend to be the most ruddy, such as the cheeks, the chin and along the nose.
